1. Terms of Service

These Terms govern access to and use of CTN’s website, directory, profiles, scores, tiers, badges, and related features (the “Services”). If you do not agree, do not use the Services.

1.1. What CTN Is (and Is Not)

CTN is a private platform that publishes business profiles and provides informational opinions (including Trust Scores and tiers) based on available data. CTN does not provide legal advice, financial advice, investigative services, or regulatory oversight.

1.2. “Verified” Means a Limited Internal Verification Process

Definition: “CTN Verified” means a business has completed a limited internal verification process which may include checks such as ownership, identity, and contact verification signals. Verification is not a guarantee of performance, safety, licensing validity in all jurisdictions, or legal compliance.

CTN may update verification requirements over time. CTN may suspend, revoke, or change verification status at any time, including for suspected abuse, policy violations, non-payment (for paid services), or data quality concerns.

1.3. Scores, Tiers, Badges and Assessments Are Opinions (No Guarantee)

Opinion disclaimer: CTN’s Trust Scores, tiers, badges, written assessments, and summaries are informational opinions based on limited data available to CTN at the time. They are not statements of fact, not guarantees, and not predictions of future behaviour or outcomes.

CTN may rely on third-party sources (including public reviews, business directories, websites, and other open sources), and information provided by businesses and users. Data can be incomplete, inaccurate, misleading, or outdated. You are responsible for your own decisions and due diligence.

1.4. Profiles; Accuracy; Editorial Discretion

CTN may create and maintain profiles using public data, third-party sources, or information submitted by businesses and users. CTN may edit, update, reorder, summarize, or remove content for clarity, safety, integrity, or operational reasons. CTN is not obligated to display any profile, score, tier, badge, complaint, or review indefinitely.

1.5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Services for unlawful purposes, harassment, threats, or to target individuals with hate or discrimination.
  • Submit false, misleading, or defamatory content, including fabricated complaints or reviews.
  • Upload personal information about private individuals without lawful basis or consent.
  • Attempt to probe, scan, exploit, reverse engineer, or interfere with CTN systems, scripts, badges, or APIs.
  • Use automated scraping in a way that degrades service performance or violates applicable law.

1.6. Fees; Billing; No Refunds Once Work Starts

Some Services may be offered for a fee or subscription. Unless otherwise stated in writing:

  • Fees are billed in Canadian dollars (CAD) or as displayed at checkout.
  • Fees are non-refundable once verification or listing work has started, or access has been provisioned.
  • CTN may change pricing prospectively with reasonable notice where applicable.

1.7. Disclaimer of Warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Services are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind. CTN does not warrant uninterrupted operation, error-free results, or that content will always be accurate or complete.

1.8. Limitation of Liability

Limitation: To the maximum extent permitted by law, CTN and its owners, officers, employees, and contractors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages (including loss of revenue, profits, data, goodwill, or reputation) arising from use of the Services.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, CTN’s total aggregate liability for any claim related to the Services will not exceed the lesser of:

  • The total amount paid by you to CTN in the three (3) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim; or
  • Five hundred Canadian dollars (CAD $500).

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations. Where required, limitations apply only to the maximum extent permitted by law.

1.9. Indemnity

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless CTN and its owners, officers, employees, and contractors from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Services, your submissions, your misuse of badges, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

1.10. Governing Law and Venue

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflicts of law principles. You agree that any dispute must be brought in the courts located in Alberta, Canada, unless applicable law requires otherwise.

1.11. Changes to These Terms

CTN may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Services after changes means you accept the updated Terms.

2. Privacy Policy (Summary)

CTN collects and uses information to operate the Services, maintain profiles, support verification, generate scores/tiers, and protect against abuse. CTN aims to handle personal information in a manner consistent with applicable Canadian privacy principles.

2.1. What We Collect

  • Business contact details (business names, business emails, business phone numbers, business addresses).
  • Verification-related information submitted by businesses (for example, documents or data provided to support limited internal verification).
  • Usage and technical data (IP address, device/browser data, logs, pages visited, referrers).
  • Publicly available information (including information from public registries, websites, and public review platforms).
  • Complaint and dispute submissions (content and metadata you choose to submit).

2.2. How We Use Information

  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Services.
  • Support limited internal verification processes and generate informational scores/tiers.
  • Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
  • Respond to inquiries, disputes, and legal requests.

2.3. Sharing and Service Providers

CTN may use service providers (such as hosting, analytics, email, and infrastructure providers) to operate the Services. Providers may process data in Canada, the United States, or other jurisdictions, and information may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions.

2.4. Retention

CTN retains information as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above, including maintaining historical accuracy and resolving disputes, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

2.5. Requests

Where applicable law provides rights of access, correction, or deletion, requests can be submitted by email. CTN may require verification of identity or authority before responding.

3. Trust Score, Tiers & Badge Disclaimers

CTN displays informational Trust Scores, tiers, and badges on CTN pages and (where enabled) on third-party websites via embedded badge scripts.

3.1. Nature of Scores and Tiers

Score/tier disclaimer: Trust Scores and tiers are internal CTN metrics and informational opinions based on available data at the time. They are not guarantees, certifications, or statements of legal compliance.

CTN may adjust methodologies, inputs, and weightings. Scores and tiers may change, including without notice, as new data becomes available or as criteria are refined.

3.2. Badge Use; No Endorsement; No Warranty

Badges are provided for informational display. Display of a CTN badge does not create a partnership, agency, endorsement, or joint venture. CTN does not warrant that badge data will always be available, current, or error-free.

3.3. Misuse of Badges

A business may not alter badge images, falsify status, or use a badge to mislead users. CTN may revoke badge permission and take reasonable steps to stop misuse, including updating or disabling badge functionality.

4. Complaint & Dispute Policy

CTN may receive complaints and dispute submissions and may publish or summarize portions as part of a profile. CTN does not guarantee publication, removal, or any particular outcome. CTN retains editorial discretion to protect integrity and reduce harm.

4.1. Submitting a Complaint or Dispute

By submitting, you agree that:

  • You will provide information you believe to be accurate and relevant.
  • You will not include sensitive personal information about private individuals unless necessary and lawful.
  • You will not present unverified criminal allegations as fact.

4.2. Moderation and Removal

CTN may remove or refuse to publish content that appears unlawful, defamatory, abusive, threatening, discriminatory, spammy, unrelated, or that exposes private individuals to harm.

4.3. Business Responses

CTN may allow businesses to submit a response or clarification. CTN may display responses with or without edits for length and clarity. CTN is not required to publish all responses.

4.4. Dispute Review

CTN may review disputes and may update or clarify profile information where appropriate. CTN does not guarantee timelines or outcomes. CTN may request documentation to support a dispute and may decline requests that cannot be reasonably substantiated.

5. Effective Date

These Legal & Policies are effective as of the date they are published on this page and supersede prior versions.
